Rich Township High School District 227’s R.P.I. Raptors earned the Judges’ Award at PMMI’s PACK Challenge during PACK EXPO International 2026, held October 18–21 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
Competing as Rich Palletizing Industries, the students were one of just six high school finalist teams from across the country. They presented VelociStack, a palletizing machine they designed, built, and programmed themselves.
Over four days, the team put its machine through a Factory Acceptance Test, delivered a sales and marketing presentation, and led operator training before industry judges. Students applied their technical skills while practicing how to explain their work and demonstrate equipment to an industry audience.
The Judges’ Award caps months of preparation and problem-solving. The competition also gave students the opportunity to connect with packaging and manufacturing professionals and explore potential careers.
Student broadcasters share the experience
Raptor Broadcasting Team members Rashad King, Rashad Smith, and Madysen Webb live-streamed competition rounds, student and industry interviews, and the awards ceremony. Their coverage allowed families and the school community to follow the competition in real time. The crew also helped promote PACK Challenge and feature its sponsors.
NBC 5 Chicago covered the competition and featured Rich Township student Jeremiah Moore-Smith in its report.
