Rich Township High School District 227 continues to work with regional partners to expand college access and create meaningful postsecondary opportunities for students and families across the South Suburbs.
On Monday, August 31, students and families participated in the LAUNCH College Admissions Event at Southland College Prep Charter High School. The event brought admissions representatives from Cornell University, Emory University, Pomona College, Rice University, and Washington University in St. Louis directly to the Southland, providing families with an opportunity to learn more about highly selective colleges and universities and connect directly with admissions professionals.
The event and the effort to bring nationally recognized institutions to the South Suburbs were recently highlighted by the Chicago Tribune, drawing additional attention to the importance of ensuring students throughout the region have access to information, resources, and relationships that can help shape their postsecondary futures.
Rich Township High School District 227 is proud to partner with Southland College Prep in this work. Through the leadership of Southland College Prep CEO Dr. Blondean Y. Davis and Rich Township Superintendent Dr. Johnnie Thomas, the districts are continuing to identify opportunities that connect students with colleges, universities, and pathways that may otherwise feel out of reach.
For Rich Township, college and career readiness extends beyond preparing students academically. It also means creating access, exposing students to possibilities, and helping families make informed decisions about what comes next.
