3 District 227 Students Bring Home The Gold In Special Olympics
For the first time in District 227 history, three Special Olympics student-athletes competed at Illinois State University and won the gold medal for their respective event. 
District 227 Summer Food Service Program Is Back
Statistics show that more than 80% of our local south suburban students, both high school and middle school qualify for free and reduced lunch.

In our continued effort to ensure students receive daily, nutritious meals, we are offering our summer meal program, consisting of free breakfast and lunch to students through July 16, 2015.

Students between the ages of 1-18 can eat for free without presenting income verification or even living within District 227 school boundaries.

District 227 offers numerous and beneficial professional development opportunities for its teachers and staff. This is reflected in Board Goal #3: We support and develop high quality, high performing staff. 
Rich South Alum Ben Simington Gives Commencement Address For Carthage University
Ben Simington, who graduated from Rich South in 2011, was recently named Distinguished Senior for the Class of 2015 at Carthage University. 
Rich Township Grads Offered $12M in Scholarships and Grants
Rich Township High School seniors have completed their rigorous academic school year, been celebrated in various athletic and activity recognition programs, and participated in the commencement ceremony.

To date, District 227 graduates have been offered more than $12 million in college scholarships, grants, and awards.
 
Another District 227 Teacher Receives The Coveted James Madison Award
Robert Grigsby is concluding his seventh year as a Social Studies teacher at Rich East High School, located in Park Forest, IL. Grigsby has recently been named a recipient of the James Madison Award, and is the second District 227 teacher to win this prestigious award in back-to-back years. In 2014, Rich South Social Studies teacher Andrea Clark was selected and received the same honor. 
Rich South "It's Your World" Fashion Show
The “It’s Your World” Fashion Show was another fun event dedicated to the Senior Class of 2015. Attendees enjoyed Live Jazz, the Rich South Drum Line, Spoken Word, H’orderves, and of course, fashion! Special thanks go to Mrs. Wilks for coordinating and leading this special event. 
STEM Early College Recognition Ceremony
On Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 7:00 p.m., the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Department of Prairie State Junior College and District 227 hosted an Early College Recognition Ceremony for our students. 
What is DCAC?
The District Curriculum Advisory Council (DCAC) is a critical team of teachers and administrators, facilitated by Mrs. Boarden, District 227 Director for Student Learning and Accountability. 
Rich Central Students Attend the 31st Chicago Latino Film Festival
Rich Central Foreign Language students attended the 31st Chicago Latino Film Festival. They watched a free screening of East Side Sushi, a film about a woman named Juana 
Rich Central Spanish Students Take A Cultural Excursion
Rich Central Spanish students took a cultural excursion to learn more about the history and culture of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. 
Annual Diversity Dinner
Recently, the South Suburban area hosted the Congresswoman Robin Kelly inspired, annual Diversity Dinner.

Diversity Dinners bring people of different races, ethnicities, religions, lifestyles, and ages together to share a meal, discuss their common goals, understand their differences, address misperceptions , and offer solutions to strengthen our communities.
