There is also a new award this year for undergraduate students. If you know of anyone who will be a junior or senior at a 4 year college/university in the 2017-2018 school year, permanently resides in the south suburbs or attended a south suburban high school, and is a member of a National Pan-Hellenic Organization, please be sure to pass the application along to them as well.

Rich Central Lady Olympians are regional basketball champs
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to the varsity Rich Central Lady Olympians Basketball team on their regional championship win on Thursday, February 16th against Herscher High School. Vivian Imarenezor led the team with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Maliyah McDonald added in 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Mimi Smith also contributed 4 points and 9 rebounds. The heart and determination that the team played with is incomparable. The team will play in the sectional tournament at Hillcrest High School on Monday, February 20th at 7pm so come out and support the Lady Olympians! #rich227pride #rich227talent #richcentral 
District Boys Volleyball Open Gym

Hidden Figures movie outing and conversation
The movie "Hidden Figures" is a story of African-American women mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the United States Space Program. More than 90 female students from District 227 were excited to view the film and were inspired by its significance in both African-American histiry and American history.  
Rich Central Girl's Bowling win first place in conference
Congratulations to the Rich Central Girls Bowling Team for taking first place in the SCA conference tournament. The team finished the season with a 6 – 0 conference record, and have won three of the last four conference titles. 
The Superintendents’ Commission 2017 Ron Edmonds Scholarship Award Application
The Superintendents’ Commission for the Study of Demographics & Diversity is proud to sponsor The Ron Edmonds Scholarship Award Program. This award is made available to students of color or students of poverty who are currently high school seniors. Students must provide an official transcript and must show proof of acceptance into a college or university. Awards will be announced Thursday, at our March 30, 2017 Banquet (Education Conference at Holiday Inn Hotel & Tinley Convention Center, 18501 South Harlem Avenue, Tinley Park, Illinois 60477.) Congratulations Brianna Hughes
The Rich East Varsity Girls Bowling Team took 3rd Place in conference, and a special recognition goes to Brianna Hughes for her 7th Place finish. Brianna will be awarded a medal for qualifying for the top ten individuals with a total pin-fall of 875!  
Recent Rich East alum Zack Abbott helps publish board game
For years, Zach Abbott, a recent gradate of Rich East High School, enjoyed video games. He enjoyed them so much, after matriculating from Rich East, Abbott began to study Game Design at Bradley University.

District 227 celebrates Annual Signing Day
Annually, District 227 looks forward to celebrating National Signing Day, which is usually the first Wednesday of February. National Signing Day is the first day that a high school senior can sign a letter of intent for college football.

This year, we congratulate four Rich Central seniors for their academic and athletic achievement. David High will attend Northwest Missouri State University, Caylon May will attend Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and Anthony Burton, and Miles Wade will attend Emporia State University in Kansas.
Rich East wrestlers ready for the post season
Sam Tijerina and Kevin Racliff, both Seniors, are ready for the post-season. Both wrestlers posted wins in the last dual meet of the season against Oak Forest. Tijerina improved his record to 24-9 and is currently ranked 9th in the state. 
District 227 Leadership Team
The District 227 Leadership Team (D.L.T.) continues to work intentionally for continued student growth and academic achievement. This particular meeting focused on reviewing district data and progress, strategizing, and formulating S.M.A.R.T. goals. The D.L.T. is composed of District 227 administrators, teachers, counselors, and deans to ensure students are properly represented and that multiple perspecitves are considered.  
2nd Semester Foundation Articulation Meeting
Our second semester Foundation Articulation Meeting ensures that school administrators and educators are partnering together for academic success for all of our students. Districts represented were: 159, 160, 162, 163, and 227.
