Learning That Blows Kids Away!
Mrs. LaPlante along with her AP Physics students took a field trip to IFLY to participate in the STEM Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). This program uses IFLY’s state-of-the-art vertical wind tunnel to inspire and educate students. Trained and reviewed STEM educators guided the students through an interactive presentation, demos in the wind tunnel and grade-appropriate lab activities. The trip
was the culminating project on the semester 1 concepts of forces, energy, and
kinematics. Students had to understand and apply how all the concepts interact
during free fall in the wind tunnel. The Field trip was comprised of four components:
4. In-depth flight training and flight experience.
- Interactive 'physics of flight' presentation on real-world application of STEM with wind tunnels.
- Vertical wind tunnel ball flight testing.
- Hands-on, creative student experiments.
