Matteson, IL-- Rich Township High School District 227's Board of Education approved Dr. Stephen Bournes as the new Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services during the May 15, 2018 board meeting. Bournes will be identifying and designing data needed for school improvement, provide tools for improving instructional practice, conducting a regular analysis of student achievement data and preparing/submiting all ELL grants.
Before joining District 227, Bournes spent 13 years teaching at Evanston Township High School. After leaving the classroom, he became an assistant principal in Chicago Public Schools and then was named the principal of Mayo Elementary School. Bournes has also relocated to Alabama to serve as the Chief Academic Officer of Montgomery Public Schools. He holds an Ed.D from the University of Pennsylvania where he researched effective and evidence-based central office supports to turnaround schools, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from National Louis University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Northwestern University.
“It is a pleasure to have Dr. Bournes join us at District 227. His expertise and knowledge in education will help our students evolve academically, and will ensure that they’ll receive endless opportunities that will prepare them for a future full of success,” said Superintendent Dr. Johnnie Thomas.
Bournes says his interest and
experience in secondary education led him to join District 227. He plans to
transform the expectations of high schools through student achievement and
aligning students with 21st-century expectations.
“I am really excited about the challenge of meeting practice and pedagogy, which the opportunity being the assistant superintendent is going to provide me,” said Bournes.
Bournes will be joining District 227 July 1, 2018.
