Sound and Fury
Rich South Spanish students enjoyed a field trip to the Teatro Vista for a performance of Sound and Fury. Teatro Vista Acting Ensemble members Marvin Quijada and Gabe Ruiz told original stories using technology most of us carry in our pockets and backpacks everyday. With a cellphone and two iPads, these iOS musicians bridge the distance between immersive technological environments and the most classic analog format: Theater. Sound and Fury packs hilarious, heartfelt , and action packed stories with music that was part hip-hop concert, house music concert, neo-noir radio play, physical/comedic story telling, and poetry reading. Students imaginations were captured as these two actors boiled down story telling to three elements showing that everyone can be a story teller. The follow up Q&A session had students seeking out the various programs used to make the show making the time pass too quickly and the students eager for a return visit. Teatro Vista was chosen to give students the opportunity to interact with members of the HIspanic culture in an unexpected setting, expanding their experience with Hispanic-American culture..
