On Friday, April 5th, the Forensics classes visited the Park Forest Fire
Academy to learn about the investigative techniques used to determine
if a fire was arson or accidental.
Captain Myers and the Park Forest firefighters presented the investigative techniques and then demonstrated what both fires would look like. Three fires were set using normal furniture or accelerants. The students were shown the clues to look for in determining if the fire was accidental or arson.
Mazie, the arson investigation dog, demonstrated how sensitive her sense of smell was and how she finds accelerants at a fire.
