Craig Edwards, a senior at Rich Central High School, received a $3,000 scholarship from recording artist T.L. Williams at the school’s concert earlier this month. Edwards played the tuba for the Marching Olympians since his freshman year. However, this is not the only scholarship he had received.
Edwards is planning to attend Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama this fall. The university awarded him annual academic and band scholarships totaling $15,000 a year. Edwards has participated in local bands since the fifth grade, and he credits the band for changing his life.
“I feel like it prepared me for college and life in general. The band turns you into a different person, and I feel like more people should look into it,” said Edwards.
Edwards says he is leaving early this summer to begin practicing for Alabama A&M University’s Marching Maroon & White Band. He is majoring in Mass Communications with a focus radio and broadcast. He aspires to be an audio engineer and music producer.
