STEM update from Assistant Superintendent Dr. Stacey Hunt

*Greeting to all District 227 Family and Friends

On Saturday, July 1st, Rich East hosted our first annual robotics tournament. This was the culminating event of our RAMP–UP with STEM Summer Camp. This program was open to our entire group of incoming freshmen. The students spent the previous three weeks learning about STEM and building their robots.

On Friday, June 30th, each school had its own tournament so we could take the top eight teams from each school into the district tournament on Saturday. We had a wonderful turnout with over 120 guests and 40 students competing. The students all represented their schools well. They had a wonderful time cheering on all their classmates. At the end of the day, Rich East took home 1st and 3rd place with Rich South taking 2nd and 4th place.

Below are the results from Saturday’s competition. Please congratulate these students and robotics instructors when you see them. There will be more pictures and video to come.

1st – E5 Armondo Davis and Charles True

2nd – S2 Darius Banister and Dayja Johnson

3rd – E6 Destiny Burnett and Coby Hicks

4th – S5 Brandon Nicholson and Desmond Brown

Robotics Instructors

Central – Bill Kuban

East – Mike Wilson

South – Brenda Taylor
