Rich Township High School District 227 Welcomes New Coordinator for Community Relations!

Matteson, IL-- Rich Township High School District 227’s board of education approved Torene Harvin as the new Coordinator for Community Relations at Tuesday night’s meeting. Harvin will be responsible for planning strategic marketing tactics, serving as a liaison to local and national media outlets, promoting and planning parent, student and community groups, as well as expanding social media networks.

She is a former news reporter and served as a freelancer for the Associated Press during the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Harvin has a master's degree from Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.  Throughout her matriculation at Medill, she reported for Medill News Service/Medill Reports, a news organization covering local and national issues, based in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, reported in Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as the political climate of the African National Congress and Democratic National Alliance.

District 227’s superintendent, Dr. Johnnie Thomas states, “I’ve known early on, Torene’s talent and creativity would be a perfect match for the position. She has a vision for the organization that we would love to see implemented in the near future.”

Harvin is an alumna of Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies. She says her inquisitive nature and attention to detail has led her to pursue a career in journalism. Harvin is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

“It is a pleasure to have Torene on board as the new Coordinator for Community Relations. I am excited to see what she has in store for the 2017-18 academic school year,” said  Randy Alexander, Board of Education president.
