Matteson, IL-- Rich Township High School District 227’s board of education approved Torene Harvin as the new Coordinator for Community Relations at Tuesday night’s meeting. Harvin will be responsible for planning strategic marketing tactics, serving as a liaison to local and national media outlets, promoting and planning parent, student and community groups, as well as expanding social media networks.
She is a former news reporter and served as a freelancer for the Associated Press during the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Harvin has a master's degree from Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. District 227’s superintendent, Dr. Johnnie Thomas states, “I’ve known early on, Torene’s talent and creativity would be a perfect match for the position. She has a vision for the organization that we would love to see implemented in the near future.”
Harvin is an alumna of Bennett College in Greensboro, North
Carolina, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media

pursue a career in journalism. Harvin is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa
