STEM update from Assistant Superintendent Dr. Stacey Hunt
Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) is alive and well in Rich 227. The following is an update from the Office of the Assistant Superintendent Dr. Stacey Y.S. Hunt:

The STEM/Early College Program and partnership with Prairie State will continue for the 2017-2018 School year. It is a 1 year program. Interested students must see their counselor to verify eligibility. Students must test and meet the requirements per Prairie State. The initial test will be given on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. Please see your counselor for more details. Space is limited.
 
RAMP-UP with STEM Application
We're excited for our RAMP-UP with STEM Summer Program for District 227 incoming freshman. Program Highlights include: reading, writing, algebra, robotics, manufacturing, and culinary arts. The program runs Monday-Thursday 8am-12pm June 12th through June 29th, and includes meals and transportation.

Rich East Competes in the Southworks Engineering and Robotics Olympics
On Saturday, April 8th, the Rich East Manufacturing, Engineering, and Robotics club (M.E.R.) participated in the Southworks Engineering and Robotics Olympics.   
TEN80 STEM Innovators-in-Training- and Expo
Under the leadership of District CTE Coordinator Ms. Hope Stovall, the CTE Department continues to build external partnerships with our community to create and provide various career opportunities for our students (Board Goal #1 & #5).

The Ten80 STEM Innovators-in-Traning and Expo was a huge success. The students engaged in various skills workshops that addressed different concepts and skills, but all addressed a key concept of the innovation process. Students were also exposed to a variety of career paths in government and economics.
 
NBA legends Marc Aguirre and Craig Hodges
Marc Aquirre, former NBA All-Star and DePaul University basketball star, was invited by Craig Hodges to come and speak to the students of Rich East.   
Ramp Up with STEM
Ramp Up with STEM is a great way for incoming freshman to get a head start in their high school experience. Program highlights are: reading, writing, algebra, robotics, manufacturing, and culinary. Ramp Up includes meals and transportation and begins Monday, June 12th.  
Visit to Bimba Manufacturing
The students were given a comprehensive tour of the plant, met with company leaders, learned the requirements and expectations for Bimba employees, and were able to have all of their questions answered by Bimba leadership.

The students also met with the Human Resources Director regarding possible summer internships.

KayeLyn Sterling and Sam Tijerina Take Home Awards
KayeLyn Sterling won Best in School and Sam Tijerina won Honorable Mention for Best in Show, 3-dimensional at South Suburban College's high school art festival.
