There is also a new award this year for undergraduate students. If you know of anyone who will be a junior or senior at a 4 year college/university in the 2017-2018 school year, permanently resides in the south suburbs or attended a south suburban high school, and is a member of a National Pan-Hellenic Organization, please be sure to pass the application along to them as well.

Cameron Owens Placed Second at Conference
Despite beating the first place finisher head-to-head, Cameron Owens walked out of the conference with a second place finish in this year's Chess Conference Meet. 
Jada Wright Nominated to the McDonald's All American Team
Rich East's senior and Rutgers recruit, Jada Wright has been nominated to the McDonald's All American Team. 
District 227 OlyRockStars win their division
The OlyRockStars make history again by winning 1st Place in their division. Both, Team X and Team O won 1st place in their division, earning the gold and will compete at Illinois State University in March to compete for the State Title in their division.

The entire District 227 family support the OlyRockStars and sincerely thanks Coach Sandy Clark and Coach Gutierrez for their leadership.

Rich East alum Briana Gipson presents her research at the Midwest Undergraduate Conference
Proud Rich East alum and a Coe College sophomore Briana Gipson recently presented a research paper on the role of African American soldiers during the Civil War at the Midwest Undergraduate Conference in the Humanities held at Central College in Pella, Iowa. Gipson's research was entitled, "'Hard Won Freedom': Andrew Ford and Struggles for Freedom and Civil Rights Among African-American Civil War Veterans in Cedar Rapids, Iowa."

Sprint gives free cell phones, tablets, hot spots, and cases to Rich East students
Some 250 high school students in Park Forest stand to become the proud new owners of cellular devices thanks to a new initiative from Sprint.

Park Forest was selected as one of 11 communities across the country by Sprint and the Sprint Foundation to participate in the 1Million Project Pilot Program to benefit youth with internet access at home. Close to 100 communities applied to take part in the program.
