Superintendent Search

Information & Timeline

Superintendent Howard Hunigan, who has diligently served the needs of our students, staff and communities for the last four years, will be retiring at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. Accordingly, our district has begun the process of hiring a new Superintendent. This process will involve the feedback from all stakeholders including parents, students, staff, administrators, and members of the community. In furtherance of this process, the Board of Education has hired the Illinois Association of School Boards to assist in the search for a new Superintendent.

Accordingly, Community Forums  were held at each campus during the month of October.  Parents, students, staff members, elected officials, and community members  gathered together to share their vision of the characteristics they wanted to see in the new Superintendent.

An online Superintendent Survey was also offered during the entire month of October, allowing all community members, an opportunity to anonymously share their opinions and ideas regarding the criteria for the next Superintendent. The online survey was available on each campus website and the district website.

Stakeholder Interview Sessions were also held during the month of October for District 227 staff and elected officials as an additional avenue for feedback.

The information gathered from the forums, interview sessions and surveys will be used by the Illinois Association of School Boards to identify the traits and skills needed in the next Superintendent, referred to as the “candidate criteria.” The candidate criteria will then be used by the Board of Education to identify prospective candidates in the selection and interview process.
