RICH TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 227

POLICY COMMITTEE MEETING

APRIL 14, 2008

 

 

The Policy Committee of the Board of Education of Rich Township High School District 227 met on April 14, 2008, in the Board Room at the District Administrative Center, Olympia Fields, Illinois.

 

Mrs. Upshaw called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m.

 

Present: Upshaw (Chair), Owens (Member)

Absent: Norwood (Member)

 

Also Present: Mr. Hunigan, Mrs. Treichel, Mr. Joyce, Mr. Veazey

 

Mrs. Upshaw announced that a first reading of a number of policies which were discussed at the April 7 Policy Committee meeting will be taken before the full Board at the May Board meeting.  These include the following revised or new policies:

 

                        4.10                 Fiscal and Business Management

 

                        4.60                 Purchases and Contracts

 

                        7.20                 Harassment of Students Prohibited

 

                        7.180               Preventing Bullying, Intimidation, and Harassment

 

                                                Note: This is a new policy.  This information should also be

                                                listed in the Parent/Student Handbook.

 

                        7.60                 Residence.  It was decided that the definition of

                                                “Homeless” should be added to this policy.

 

Student Classification was discussed as far as adding to the policy books.  It was decided that a template for this policy should be developed and discussed at the next Policy Committee meeting.

 

Mr. Joyce mentioned that Enrichment (Advisory) classes should follow the students by year in school and not by grade classification.

 

Mr. Veazey asked if students will be able to make up classes in summer school.  Mr. Hunigan responded that they would.  He noted the administration is also looking at some type of make-up class within the year, in addition to evening school and the SWS program.

Mrs. Upshaw asked if Snowball required a 2.0 grade point average.  Mr. Hunigan responded that Snowball is open for all students. 

 

Mrs. Upshaw noted that she will be looking at the best possible date for the next Policy Committee meeting.  A discussion will take place at that meeting regarding the policies mandated by the State Board of Education.

 

At 7:20 p.m. Mrs. Upshaw adjourned the meeting.
