Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! On behalf of our entire staff, we would like to welcome our freshmen and new students, as well as our returning students! It is with great honor and much enthusiasm that we publish our first newsletter for the new school year as a means for open communication. Please know that a tremendous amount of planning and hard work has gone into preparing for a successful school year.
My name is Dr. Albert Brass, Jr., and I am thrilled to be your principal! We look forward to meeting new faces and hearing all about your summer adventures! For those of you who have not met me, this is my 21st year in Education, and I’m excited to support our students and staff as we provide students with the tools to become college- and career-ready. Our focus this year is on re-establishing school culture and creating an environment that is safe and conducive to learning for students to maximize their learning potential. Therefore, our motto this year is “Whoever you are, Wherever you go, Honor Rich East, Honor the Rockets!”
I would also like to introduce our administrative team. Our new Assistant Principal of Building Operations is Nigel Anderson; Assistant Principal of Educational Services, LaTanza Boarden; Division Leaders: Humanities, Kameelah Jones; STEM, Jackie Stone; Student Support Services, Cynthia Knox; Athletics and Wellness, Matt Shank; and Coordinators of Climate & Culture, Quincy Owens and LaTanya Tumbs.
We appreciate all the work done by teachers and support staff who have spent hours preparing materials, creating student-centered classrooms, and reviewing data for school improvement. We would like to thank the secretaries and office staff who have registered new students, assembled information packets, and organized new materials.
Furthermore, we offer sincere thanks and appreciation to our custodial and maintenance staff. They have worked diligently throughout the summer to ready the school for us. Many facility updates--from structural to technological--took place and are continuing to happen.
Although we are excited to offer this monthly newsletter, it is the face-to-face interactions that we value most. Please know that we have an open-door policy and welcome any opportunity to meet with you. We are looking forward to collaborating to provide a safe and nurturing environment that offers a challenging and diverse curriculum.
Remember, registration takes place July 31st-August 2nd (8:00-11:00 a.m. and 4:00-7:00 p.m.). Our freshmen begin classes Tuesday, August 14th, and sophomores, juniors, and seniors start Wednesday, August 15th.
This will be a FANTASTIC year!
Whoever you are, Wherever you go, Honor Rich East, Honor the Rockets!
Dr. Albert Brass, Jr., Principal
