Dear Parents and Guardians,
This morning, at about 6:00 a.m., our maintenance team reported a faint odor of natural gas in the main hallway of Rich East High School. We immediately contacted the fire department and Nicor Gas to assess the situation.
By the time the fire department arrived onsite, the odor had dissipated, and firefighters found no detection of the gas. Nicor arrived a short time later and conducted a thorough inspection with its gas testing equipment. The company found a few leaks at different locations in the building.
The safety of all our students and staff is our top priority. To that end, as a precaution, we are not allowing students or staff into the building until all leaks are repaired. We expect this work will be completed by the end of the day and that our schedule will resume as usual tomorrow.
Today will be an e-learning day for our students. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. Thank you for your understanding as we deal with this issue in our school.
